New Appointments
About Us
It’s been a long time since we sent out our last newsletter. It’s not that we haven’t wanted to communicate with our clients; like you, we’ve been busy with a lot of things, but we really want to get back to communicating more frequently. We’ve had a lot of changes in the past year, a lot of growth, new opportunities and exciting new innovations. Here are just a few.
As many of you are aware, our treatment facility in New Castle, Pennsylvania was largely destroyed by fire last September. While the building was a total loss, there were no injuries or environmental impact from the fire or the clean-up efforts. We circled our wagons and within 8 days we were processing waste on a limited basis and without a building. What we couldn’t process, we made arrangements with a partner to process so that we could continue to service our clients until we were 100% up and running. We promised our employees and our clients we would rebuild and be better than ever.

On February 16, we formally opened the doors of our new, state-of-the-art waste treatment facility (including an on-site laboratory) that was literally built around us while we processed waste. Not only that, we broke ground in April on a new 6,400 square foot sludge processing building which is just about complete, greatly improving our ability to efficiently handle high volumes of bulk and drummed sludge. Clients and regulators who have visited our facility lately are amazed at how fast we’ve rebuilt and how beautiful and functional the facility is as well. Before the end of the year, we expect the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to issue us our Residual Waste Permit, which will allow us to process oily wastes, solids and so much more!

Throughout this past year, our employees have worked tirelessly to complete our renewal and our expansion. Our clients have remained our focus throughout and we have been rewarded by their loyalty and support. We are truly grateful. (Take a virtual tour on You Tube.)
We are equipping each of our drivers with Notebook PC’s so that all the information the drivers now enter on their daily paper logs goes directly into the PC. The PC’s are linked to our NetSuite Enterprise System, so the information is electronically communicated with our Operations and Accounting teams, ensuring improved information transfer, capture and turnaround.

We are beta testing this new technology right now and, once we are confident this transformative technology is running smoothly, we will roll it out to our Clients. We’re really excited about how this new paperless AWS Direct™ technology will continue our pursuit to Transform Wastes into Resources™. If you happen to interact with one of our test drivers, please feel free to let me know what you think at mikem@advancedwasteservices.com or (414) 475-3100. I’d love to hear from you.
“Ever since we started working with AWS, your company has done an outstanding job in providing great services during emergencies. Your team exceeded all of our expectations on our most recent emergency job.

There were two specific deadlines during the project, and this team beat both of those deadlines exceptionally. This level of service impressed me very much and there were compliments from everyone on AWS’ professionalism, hard work and ability to work independently.

Additionally, we were all impressed with the level of sanitation throughout the project. We look forward to continuing to work with AWS."

As we’ve evaluated our growth and capabilities, we’ve realized that we must always be focused on being more and more valuable to our clients. Increasing our value delivery to clients requires us to maximize the advantages of our facilities, people and equipment at each of our 4 locations. We must constantly improve!

During the summer, we made the following appointments in pursuit of this improvement. All these positions were filled with longtime AWS employees with rich and successful histories in our industry.
Jeff Dean, an AWS shareholder, was named General Manager of our Milwaukee and Indiana-based operations. Jeff also serves the company as Director of Operations, in which he will influence and impact our various business segments – bulk, non-bulk, treatment, industrial services, tank wash, etc.
KC Wulf was named General Manager of our Illinois-based operations KC also heads the Non-Bulk and GRIP (Get Rid of It Program™) Operations for AWS.
Anthony Cialella was named General Manager of our Pennsylvania-based operations.
Tom Hipp was named Vice President of our Results Advisor Program, charged with creating the most effective, proactive and dependable salz
Larry Lyons was named Chief Operating Officer of AWS. A shareholder since AWS’ startup in 1993, Larry is responsible for the Client Delivery Experience throughout our entire company.
Appointing General Managers at each location will further improve the performance and accountability at every one of our operating locations. GM’s have overall responsibility for the financial, safety, operational and Client Delivery performance for their location.
We are very pleased to introduce the “VacSimizer™”, the prototype of a truck we have developed that allows the trailer to expand and contract to meet highway weight requirements and provide us the capacity and maneuverability we needed for many jobs. The truck itself weighs in at a mere 38,000 pounds. That leaves an extra 42,000 pounds of available space for waste product to meet the 80,000 pound weight limitation for highways.

The patent-pending VacSimizer™ allows us to complete larger jobs with one man and one truck, which we see as a huge advantage for AWS. No one else has anything that can do what the VacSimizer™ does. Our goal all along has been to perfect the process, create efficiency and make things easier for our clients. You can find a brief demonstration video on YouTube.
