We’ve had quite a busy year at AWT… and it’s only May! The launch of GlobalView™ Fleet Management last fall was well-received by our customers, and they have given us tremendous feedback. Now we are pleased to announce the latest version of GlobalView with rogue wave alerts, in-depth pirate attack data and more. In addition, AWT today announced five new specialized services by vessel type, including Tanker, Bulk Carrier, Break Bulk Carrier, Liner, and Pure Car Carrier/Roll on-Roll off (PCC/Ro-Ro).
In the article below, our VP of Product Management Rich Brown tells us what’s new in GlobalView, and how we’ve specialized our support to best serve the needs of each vessel and voyage. As always, let us know what you think – we appreciate your feedback.

What’s New in GlobalView
Rich Brown, VP of Product Management
Based on your feedback, AWT’s latest innovative product – GlobalView – now has even more features and customizations to serve your specific needs, all in our easy-to-use visual format.
GlobalView’s Pirate Activity Tracking
With the integration of real-time NATO pirate tracking information and pirate attack information from the International Maritime Bureau (IMB), GlobalView provides a comprehensive, at-a-glance overview of all pirate-related information in one easy-to-use, customizable visual format, including mothership locations and anticipated trajectory, hijacking information and pirate attack group operating areas. Live links are now integrated into GlobalView, which give fleet managers one-click access to further NATO details in real-time. Additionally, users can customize the type of data available through numerous filters, including timeframe, location, type of pirate activity, historical data, and more.
Rogue Wave Alerts in GlobalView
Rogue waves (also known as freak waves, monster waves, and abnormal waves) are relatively large, spontaneous ocean waves that occur in the open ocean in deep water, and can be a threat to any vessel. The scientific definition is a wave whose height is more than twice the significant wave height (SWH), which is defined as the average of the largest third of waves in a given area. Rogue waves are not always the largest found at sea; they are, rather, surprisingly large waves for a given sea state and are normally steep faced and often breaking. To help captains and fleet managers avoid areas where rogue wave likelihood is enhanced by prevailing waves and current interaction, AWT has developed a proprietary global model to forecast where current focusing rogue waves are likely to occur, and integrated these forecasts into GlobalView.
Other New GlobalView Features

Specialized Services by Vessel Type
You have come to know AWT as a trusted name in ship routing and fleet management systems, and we are rolling out services designed to specifically meet the individual needs of your vessel type and voyage.
AWT’s routing experts are meteorologists, route analysts, forecasting specialists, maritime scientists, computer scientists and technology innovators, mathematical modelers, end-of-voyage analysts and ship captains who are all focused exclusively on the specific needs of your vessel type – including vessel size, speed, cargo, draft, client and vessel special requirements.
We deliver pre-voyage planning and daily status reports with alerts and links to detailed voyage information. Our BonVoyage (BVS) marine voyage optimization software considers many variables, including weather and sea conditions, scheduled arrival times, and fuel consumption targets. Additionally, our innovative GlobalView Fleet management system allows fleet managers to track in-the-moment ship performance, fuel consumption/carbon emissions, weather conditions, ETAs or other factors specific to those vessel types.
For example, as part of AWT’s Tanker Service, fleet managers are given laycan data to ensure that the ETA of the vessel remains within the agreed laycan. Fleet summaries with color-coded icons give a quick view to easily identify ships that need attention regarding fuel consumption and estimated time of arrival (ETA). The data is refreshed every hour to show up-to-date status of the fleet. Custom reports can be generated for each vessel type and customer-centric reports vary by company and its departmental requirements.
Try Our New Systems and Services
I encourage you to give these new systems and services a try – and then let us know what you think! Our goal is to continue innovating based on the needs of our clients. For more information, visit AWT on the web. |
