Thank you, Skip Vaccarello   Rich Brown New BVS 6.0 Software Offers Innovations to Reduce Fuel Costs and Minimize CO2 Emissions by Rich Brown A year of hard work has come to fruition with the release of BonVoyage (BVS) 6.0, which is now available and packed full with new innovations to help ship captains and fleet managers further reduce voyage time, fuel consumption and curb C02 emissions. Working with a vessel’s target ETA, for the first time, BVS 6.0 can recommend an optimal route and speed for a given ETA to optimize fuel savings and expend the lowest possible C02 emissions. To ensure on-time arrivals, ship Captains usually take a get-there-as-fast-as-possible approach at the beginning of the voyage, and then slow the vessel down at the end. With BVS 6.0, Captains can now chart courses designed to help them arrive on time and conserve fuel by travelling at more constant speeds, which benefits both the ship’s engines and the environment. BVS 6.0 gives the shipping industry the best possible solution for saving fuel and money, while minimizing the impact on the environment. One of the most significant improvements within BVS 6.0 are higher-resolution updates of Naval Coastal Ocean Model (NCOM) current data, which allow Captains to view real-time analyses and forecasts of ocean current conditions at a quarter by quarter degree.  AWT is the only company that offers NCOM data at this level of detail and accuracy, which can also contribute to fuel savings by allowing Captains to make decisions about whether to sail with or avoid specific currents. Users can also request nested high resolution wind, wave and swell data to show a more detailed view of key areas of interest. The new BVS software package also provides 16-day forecasts that are updated four times a day – an industry first – since other solutions can only deliver new forecast information one or two times daily. As a result, Captains using BVS 6.0 are empowered to make better decisions with more detailed and up-to-date information. AWT reviews and edits forecasts to deliver the most precise data available. BVS 6.0 also delivers forecast data to ships three to six hours sooner than competing solutions, which provides Captains critical data to make informed decisions and minimize risks associated with adverse weather conditions. For planning voyages longer than 16 days, BVS 6.0 also includes a sophisticated proprietary database developed by AWT that gives Captains historical information about climate conditions in a particular area, on a specific day. The information is based on 10-years of historical climate data from the government and AWT. With this new release, we are now offering three distinct service levels – BVS Viewer, BVS Planner and BVS Ultra Planner – which makes BVS accessible to vessels and shipping companies of all sizes. This allows ship owners, operators and charterers to choose the set of features they want while offering them new pay-as-you-download or monthly subscription options.
