Since the energy crisis of the 1970’s, conservation measures have been almost exclusively focused on the reduction of building heat gain from sources affecting temperature (sensible heat) such as lighting, glass and insulation. Some conservation measures have addressed reduction of humidity (latent heat), but these measures are dwarfed by the latter. The net result is a much higher ratio of latent to total heat (latent heat ratio) in typical building applications.
It should come as no surprise that more than 30 years later we are challenging conventional air conditioning equipment to handle a higher percentage of latent heat. Conventional air conditioning equipment cannot handle today’s humidity loads without inefficient reheating.
Regenerative dehumidification options offered by MSP Technology require no reheat energy source and provide the most energy efficient option for dehumidification. At MSP we believe the best solution to climate control in buildings today is a combination of conventional air conditioning for temperature control, and regenerative dehumidification for humidity control.
