Message from Guy
Guy BergerMy, how time flies! I didn’t realize it had been so long since we sent our last e-newsletter until my daughter Diana told me yesterday to write the introduction.

We have something very exciting to announce in this edition: Palms Trading Company is completely remodeling our website! After many months of discussions and many more months of going through each detail, our new site will be ready to launch in mid October 2010. All of us are excited about the new site, as we think it is vastly improved over the previous version.

Our customers have made many comments and suggestions over the years and we have tried to incorporate many of their suggestions into the new version of www.palmstrading.com. Some common aspects we have addressed are ease of navigation, ease of check-out, simple shipping cost information and many, many more items to choose from including more medium and low priced pieces.

Our customers’ voices have been heard and we encourage you to take a few minutes over the next few weeks to explore our new and improved www.palmstrading.com. We think you'll be pleasantly surprised to see how easy it is to experience the Magic of Southwest Art.

Let us know what you think.

Guy Berger

Coming Soon: Updated, User-Friendly Shopping on the Palms Trading Website!

When we launched www.palmstrading.com with a brand new look and feel a few years ago, we were looking to bring you, our valued customers, a convenient and easy way to visit Palms Trading from the comfort of your homes. The response we received to the improvements we made was enthusiastic, and since then we’ve been working to understand how we can make your online experience with us even more enjoyable. We are proud to announce that within a few short weeks, we will be re-launching our website with the same look and feel you love, but including more user friendly options and an easy to navigate interface that we hope will take your online shopping experience with us to the next level.

While the many updates we are including on the new site are too extensive to detail here, we would like to point out some of the more prominent features that will enable you to browse quickly and efficiently for the specific items you have in mind. First and most importantly, our site now includes “store fronts” for each main category of product sold at Palms, including Native American Indian Jewelry, Pottery, Rugs, and more. Each store front details its product category and gives Indian Art novices and experts alike a general introduction and overview of what Palms Trading has to offer.

Another important change we’ve made to www.palmstrading.com is the inclusion of drop down menus under each main product category. Users can now not only shop for Native American Jewelry and Pottery, but can narrow their search within those categories to specific groupings of items. This means that with one click, users can filter results to show only Acoma pottery or Navajo earrings rather than wade through a vast, single category such as jewelry.

Taking into account suggestions from our customers as well as our own online shopping experiences, we are also working to make the checkout process quick and easy. Among the features included in our new checkout are: easy data entry, the ability to save your information for repeat purchases and simple, flat rate shipping cost information.

Finally, we are working hard to ensure that the new and improved www.palmstrading.com gives you a vast selection of product to choose from at a wide range of prices. Among the product categories currently listed we plan to add a new Native American Baskets section, as well as beef up each existing category so that you have plenty of options to choose from at multiple price points. As always, if there is something you are looking for but cannot find on the new site, feel free to contact us and we will try to help you find that piece to the best of our ability.

We look forward to presenting you with a fresh, more simplistic way to shop and hope that you are pleased with the changes we’ve made. Remember, the site will be launched mid-October, so visit frequently and let us know what you think when the changes take place. We look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your continued loyalty, input and suggestions; you are the reason this change is possible.

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta: October 2-10, 2010

October is always an enjoyable time in Albuquerque, not only because of the changing colors and climate signifying the presence of fall, but because fall brings with it the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Each morning beginning October 2nd, the vast Southwestern skies will be filled with hot air balloons of all shapes and sizes, bringing native Albuquerqueans and frequent visitors fond recollections and creating memories for those new to the experience.

Knowing this is one of Albuquerque’s main tourist attractions each year, we hope to see more of you here to experience the Balloon Fiesta with us. We hope you’ll not only enjoy the sight of balloon filled skies, but that you’ll venture into Palms to visit and see what's new. Our vast inventory contains items from both new and long-standing artists and we’ve been busy trying to provide a more enjoyable experience for you. We’re sure that while you’re here you’ll find items you’ve never seen before, and we always look forward to seeing our long time friends and meeting new ones.

Recent Developments
Silver prices have recently skyrocketed to nearly $22 per ounce. Now is a great time to purchase jewelry priced in conjunction with older silver prices, which hovered right around $17-$18 per ounce for many months.

We are happy to announce that Palms Trading Company is now on Twitter! Our handle is @palmstrading; log in and follow us to receive interesting and valuable information, as well as occasional, special discounts for our Twitter followers!

Artist Spotlight: Noreen Simplicio

Born on April 28, 1964 to Mike and Carmelita Simplicio, Zuni potter Noreen Simplicio is best known for the fine detail apparent in each of her exquisite pieces, ranging from polychrome fineline whiteware and orangeware ollas, jars and bowls to effigy pots, seed and lizard bowls, figures and miniatures. Taught by Jennie Laate and Angelina Medina at Zuni High School, Noreen has been potting since 1978 and has won various awards, the most prestigious of which was the 1988 Featured New Artist at the Santa Fe Indian Market. In 1989, Noreen entered six pieces at Indian Market and received ribbons for each: four first place, one second and one third. Additionally, she won first, second and third place ribbons at Indian Market in 1999 and 2000 and a third place ribbon at the Gallup Indian Ceremonial in 1992. Among her vast repertoire, Noreen’s favorite designs include deer-in-his -house, lizards, salamanders, tadpoles, birds, terraced clouds, feathers, rain and carved village scenes. Of her immense talent Noreen states, “I cherish the gift that Mother Earth gave me. I am able to share my talent and gifts through my work. I have met many wonderful people. I am very proud. I feel good about my pottery. I enjoy having my hands in clay!" (Southern Pueblo Pottery: 2000 Artist Biographies. Gregory Schaaf, 279).
