Earth Imaging Journal Profiles Spot Image
The May/June 2008 issue of Earth Imaging Journal magazine features a profile of the SPOT remote sensing program. The article describes Spot Image’s unique position as a provider of Earth observation imagery, products and solutions for more than 20 years. NGA Relies on SPOT Ref3D to Complete Global DEM Database
SPOT Image Corp. has been providing its Reference3D Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data to the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) to supplement a global foundation elevation data set, which the agency has been producing since 2002. SPOT DEM data is used to supplement data collected during the February 2000 Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (STRM). The SRTM data is the cornerstone data set used by NGA to produce a nearly worldwide DEM database at both medium and high resolution. Read the full story ».
SPOT Introduces Nine New SPOTMaps
Spot Image has added nine new nations and regions to its line of SPOTMaps mosaics including Iraq, Kuwait and North Korea. Available for immediate purchase at a cost of only $3/square kilometer, SPOTMaps mosaics provide seamless uniform coverage comprised of 2.5-meter, natural-color SPOT 5 satellite imagery acquired within the past three years. Since introducing SPOTMaps products in 2007, SPOT has released more than 25 nations and regions including many parts of Europe, Africa and the Middle East. In addition to Iraq, Kuwait and North Korea, the latest SPOTMaps releases are Botswana, Zimbabwe, North Chile, Namibia, Eastern South Africa and Australia. Planet Action: Call for Projects
Planet Action, a collaborative initiative begun in 2007 by Spot Image to support climate change research, is seeking project proposals from interested participants. Click here to submit an application. Your proposed project must assess a climate change issue and suggest a course of corrective action. Projects also must pertain to one of these five domains: human dimensions and habitation; drought, desertification & water resources; vegetation, biodiversity & ecosystems; oceans; or ice & snow cover. Selected projects will receive in-kind support from Plant Action sponsors, including satellite imagery and GIS software. Submission deadline is June 30, 2008.

Spring 2008 has been a traumatic time for many people around the world as they have dealt with destruction wrought by natural disasters. Aiding in the relief efforts, SPOT Image Corp. has assisted customers in identifying the extent and location of damage, defining image collection plans, programming satellites, and in some cases delivering data. The eight responses detailed herein include our support of relief efforts for wildfires in California and Florida, an earthquake in Mogul, Nevada, tornadoes in Virginia and Arkansas, flooding in Maine, and Cyclone Nagris in Myanmar.
