WhiteStar Streaming Imagery Solves Data Management Issues |
Last month, we unveiled WhiteStar Streaming Imagery, an online solution that makes 30 terabytes of high-resolution aerial photography available for you to integrate directly into your desktop mapping software. Client feedback over the past few weeks has confirmed that WhiteStar Streaming Imagery appeals to Oil & Gas Operators because it solves a huge problem: managing enormous GeoTIFF files.
Every exploration and production company that uses raster imagery in their GIS and mapping systems faces the same data management challenges. Let’s fill in the blanks. “With large GeoTIFF files, it’s always time consuming and expensive to:”
process, color-balance, and mosaic the raw data files |
keep the image data current |
re-project data into your coordinate system
safely back up the data sets |
upgrade your system memory to handle big files |

We’ve eliminated all those problems by leveraging the Web Mapping Service (WMS) technology to stream an entire U.S. database of 0.5-1.0 meter imagery to your desktop. Without leaving your mapping application, you can select just the imagery you need and integrate right into your Petra, GeoGraphix or ArcMap environment. You can re-project on the fly while we take care of managing the 30 TB database and keeping it updated on the back end.
The WMS technology, which features a royalty-free, open architecture, makes it easier for managers and geologists to get on the same page. No special programming skills are required to view the WhiteStar Streaming Imagery. Anyone who can use a web browser can view the imagery on their desktop to see what challenges are presented in the field. For more information, contact Steve Pickett at 303-781-5182.

WhiteStar Culture now has Marcellus Pipelines
In our efforts to continually upgrade our subscription products, we are adding transmission pipelines to our WhiteStar Culture product. Starting in the states producing from the Marcellus Shale, we have added transmission pipelines for natural gas and highly volatile liquids in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Break Out Tanks and LNG Plants have been added as points in those same states. For more information on WhiteStar Culture, contact Mike Schiewe at 303-781-5182.

WhiteStar CEO Robert White answers more questions about WhiteStar Streaming Imagery
Q: I keep hearing about “WMS-Compatible” software. How do I know if my mapping software has this capability?
A: Generally, your software vendor will make a big deal out of whether your software can consume a WMS stream. The latest versions of both GeoGraphix and Petra support WMS image streaming. WMS is becoming a standard so ask your software vendor to point you in the right direction.
Q: What is the pricing structure for WhiteStar Streaming Imagery subscriptions?
A: Pricing is based on the size of your organization and the number of users. The key thing to remember is that it’s about 1/100th the cost of acquiring imagery by the project, not to mention the savings from not having to update imagery. For more information click here or call 303-781-5182.
Q: Having WhiteStar host my proprietary GeoTIFF database on the Streaming Imagery server sounds great. What’s involved in terms of pricing, security and getting the data to WhiteStar?
A: The subscription includes ingestion of a specific volume of data. Greater volumes will be ingested on a $/GB basis. Your data will be safe because we host it on a secure server farm. Send us your data on DVDs or external hard drives, and our team will take care of the rest.
